The movie Chocolat is an excellent paradigm of how dissembling exists in certain(a) societies. The main character is a woman who makes magical chocolates that heighten commonwealth’s behaviors in radical ways. People in the town begin to fear that she is a witch who uses her unavowed chocolates to alter and control people. Her creations transform the town from a puritanical, compressed environment to a more carefree, enjoyable place. This movie relates to the ideas of anthropology because it shows how variant cultures have different view systems.
Anthropologists have studied the enamor of magic on various cultures throughout the world and history. “When people believe their actions can compel the supernatural to act in some particular and intended way, anthropologists often refer to the belief and related arrange as magic” (Ember 271). Many cultures practice magic and base their beliefs upon the supernatural. One example is the Azande of Zaire in central Africa, who believes in witchcraft (Ember 271).

Anthropology enables others to understand beliefs different from their own. It helps alleviate fear of the unknown and promotes acceptance. This is exemplified in the film when Vianne is accepted and welcomed by the townspeople along with her alone(predicate) beliefs.
