Belongingness is the human emotional need to be an authorized member of a group. Whether it is family, or friends, humans have an inseparable desire to belong and be an important part of something great than themselves. The motive to belong is a necessity for strong, stable relationships with other people. Peter Skrzyneckis poems Feliks Skrzynecki and Ancestors broaden my concept of belonging in that a relationship is not just just established by familiarity but through the commonalities of culture and language. Skrzynecki deploys symbolical languages devices which effectively send a message to the audience that a line of connection can also be set up when culture and language are divided up, with another person/s or a surrounding not just from familial relationships.
Affiliation can be attained when one discovers a sense of place in an environment that reflects on their culture. In stanza 1, the metaphor The Joneses of his possess minds making reason that the speakers experiences identity is powerfully linked to individualism and that he desires to complete tasks in his own way.



The simile Loved his garden like an only babe suggest that his father takes pride in his garden and finds a sense of himself there as he rolls the tobacco. The verbiage of tobacco symbolizes polish culture; tobacco being grownup in Feliks garden shows that he has bought polish tradition into Australia and has not adjusted himself to Australian gardens.
